SEVERN VALLEY KARATE

Using elements of various martial arts, we aim to tailor the training to the individual style of each student. We train in combat, self-defence and weapon awareness; improving physical and mental health. Our aim is for every student to build self-confidence, improve self-awareness and build fitness and stamina levels. It is important that students are made aware of their responsibilities as regards the law and reasonable force.

The instructor, Gordon Hogg, has over 37 years continuous experience in martial arts and holds a Black Belt 4th Dan. He is a registerd coach with the Federation of Karate Organisations (FEKO), The British Sankukai Association (BSKA) and an associate instructor with the British Combat Association (BCA). He has an up to date and clear CRB check.

Our grading system is distinctive in it's modular approach. Students are encouraged towards their next grade by certificates issued periodically as their standard rises. These 'stepping stones' serve to reward and encourage the student to achieve their goal, culminating in an officially recognised grade from 8th Kyu (Yellow belt) to 1st Kyu (Brown belt) and on to Dan grades (Black Belts).

Grading Syllabus

All syllabus's for each individual grading are now available on DVD & form part of the assessment grading. You will receive the DVD covering all you are required to develop in for your next assessment grading upon successful completion of the current one you are attaining to.

They are an excellent aid and tool to assist you in your knowledge and development towards achieving the next coloured belt.

Dan Grades

When qualified to 1st Dan Black belt status the student will then need to complete a minimum of 6 months as an assistant instructor upon which they will be assessed. This will count towards their application for 2nd Dan.

When qualified to 2nd Dan Black belt the student/instructor will need to complete a minimum of 6 months as an instructor. This will be monitored and assessed in order to count towards their application for 3rd Dan.

As a 3rd Dan instructor they must then start from scratch a club of their own. This accomplishment will count towards their application for 4th Dan Black belt.

As a 4th Dan they will be expected to be inventive & innovative, develop training packages, arrange courses and delegate as well as overseeing up and coming dan grades.

WHY? This will ensure that there are no fraudulent claims by persons that they are something they aren't as has been experienced in the past. It will also enable a trail back to ensure that the development structure is open and honest as well as being able to continually improve it where necessary.
